Full On Holiday Cheer

The holidays are almost upon me. I realize that's a little odd, because most of you live according to the accepted calendar, but none of that Hallmark-conformist shit for me! Actually, I was on call and Denise was working during Christmas, so we will be taking our Christmas holiday in the first week or so of January. I am fairly excited about seeing families, and I have neat gifts to bestow for this year's holidays.

Speaking of holidays, tonight I will be popping around town for New Year's Eve, putting my mad Need For Speed: Underground skills to good use by avoiding drunken drivers. Since D is working again tonight, I'll probably head down there shortly before 2005, so as to get a smooch at midnight. Maybe even from her! First stop, though, will be Simu CEO David's house, where there will be subdued merriment in the form of Texas Hold 'Em tournaments, and quite likely movies in the background, but with minimal drinking.

Speaking of drinking, whoever said alcohol doesn't solve anything wasn't trying hard enough. I got pretty sloppy last night, and it cleared up the previous two bad days worth of events quite satisfactorily. So it helps, but one's desire to make merry must be foremost in their resolutions.

Speaking of resolutions, here are mine:
I will be in decent shape by March.

I will complete at least one song per month on average.

I will finish my dad's website by...hrm, let's say Valentine's Day.

I will take a vacation, by which I mean, not just time off from work, but actually go somewhere. Preferably somewhere I have not been before, or have not been in a long time.

I will finish Doom 3. :p

I will spend less money in bars. Note that this does not necessarily mean I will drink less.

I will try to publish something. I have no idea where that came from - I've never had aspirations of publishing anything before this very moment. Maybe I'm trying too hard.

I will learn to play at least one of the non-guitar musical instruments I have laying around here, enough so that if I were to pick one up, people would not think it was the first time I had seen one.

Note that if I actually pick up my piano with intent to play it, I expect the reaction to be one of pure awe.

Merry Whatever

Laziest. Christmas. Evar.

We woke up at 10 o'clockish, to the disarray that ensued from having the lovely and talented Josh and Sara over last night to have a sumptuous D-cooked meal, half a dozen bottles of wine, and some entertaining games. Denise and Sara got sort of tipsy. For shame. It's hard to tell with Josh, because it's like this, yo.

Just kidding, ninja buddy!

This morning, we opened presents (I got a great black wool peacoat, which I will be putting on in about five minutes) and had some concoction which is called "breakfast casserole". You are perhaps familiar with the term, I was not. It was pretty tasty, which is a.) to be expected, because Denise made it, and b.) a good thing, 'cause I had it for dinner too, after realizing nothing was open and I had nothing convenient to eat here.

After she had to go to work (yeah...on Christmas...at a casino! Heathens!), I spent much of the afternoon mucking about with my soundcard, which I had somehow gotten into a state of WTF.

Now that she is off work, I am going to meet her in my new black wool peacoat! Except that Cyberstrike 2 just went into a crash loop, which I must fix first. Damn the man!

Anyway, I thought this summed it up nicely.

Fucking Hostile, Indeed

Former Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell dead at 38.

[Edit@2:14AM] I also noted while out drinking this evening (I only managed three before last call, Steph) that Mia Hamm retired this evening. This is a bit sad, because Ms. Hamm has been a very worthy role model to millions of young women, unlike Paris Hilton, Britney, Dimebag, etc.

Radio Free Aaron

As part of my ongoing attempt to emulate cool people, particularly Welfare Queen and her pretty good taste in music, I have set up a streaming radio thingamahooj. You may find it to the left, if you are smarter than a rock. I will update the playlist as I feel like it, but don't expect too much.

Note: If I commonly refer to you as "Jon" or "Sid", you should probably not bother with it.

In other, shaggier, news, I really need a haircut. Even the other people on the design team at work are starting to tell me to go get a haircut, and these are not typically people who would care about that sort of thing. Well, most of them. I was tempted to let it grow forever out of spite, but it's in my eyes and that's sort of annoying. Unfortunately, the guy I always go to at Cary O'Brien's has become so popular that I can't get in to see him anymore unless I make an appointment, and that's hard to do because I never know my meeting schedule at work that far in advance. I may break down and get Sara or Denise to cut it. Or do it myself. WITH A POCKET KNIFE! Or not.
