With The Funk For Your Derriere

Wow...so I'm looking around the net, researching various solutions for creating decent-sounding sample-based horn sections ('cause you have to feed a real one or they don't last), and I guess I'm a little behind, but I just read that Bob Moog died on August 22nd, at 71.

For those of you staring blankly, Bob Moog basically invented the synthesizer. Moog synthesizers are known for having some of the most distinctive sounds in the musical world, and have been in widespread use since the late 60's. Notable acts who have recorded with Moogs include: the Beatles, Parliament, NIN, Pink Floyd, Beck, Joni Mitchell, the Beastie Boys (to whom the post title belongs), Air, the Doors, Crystal Method, U2, Herbie Hancock, Duran Duran, Marilyn Manson, the Cure, and of course, the Moog Cookbook.

To say that the man was to synthesizers as Les Paul was to electric guitars is to criminally understate the case. RIP, Bob.

P.S. Dad, don't ever sell that thing.

Mascot Duties

Hah, top row, third picture. I am one with the Shiner.

Edit: Grr, they moved the picture, of course. Rather than keep redoing this every time that happens, I figured out how to submit to a POST form with a URL. Behold!
